Fisioterapia y Rehabilitación

Sport is a preserver of health

Hippocrates

How many times have you heard or been told to rest when you have a sprain ankle? Here I want to explain why MOVEMENT IS LIFE.

What is physiotherapy?

The word physiotherapy comes from the Greek “physis”-‘nature’ and “theraphia”-‘treatment’. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined physiotherapy as “the art and science of treatment by means of therapeutic exercise, heat, cold, light, water, massage and electricity”. It is a young practice that the WHO included for the first time in 1958.

And what is animal physiotherapy?

It is the application of manual, mechanical and electrical techniques with the aim of preventing, treating or rehabilitating a dysfunction in the animal.

We must make it clear that they are complementary techniques to medical and surgical treatment and do not replace it.

And that is right, we can use our hands to stretch, massage, use electrotherapy such as laser, magnetotherapy, radiofrequency, ice, heat, neuromuscular taping, dry needling, etc.

With all these tools we seek to restore health, correct and return the correct movement of the body, eliminate pain, reduce recovery times, reduce symptoms, etc. It can treat both acute and chronic pathologies.

What is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is defined by the WHO as “the set of social, educational and professional measures aimed at restoring to the disabled patient the greatest possible capacity and independence”.

Rehabilitation seeks to recover the condition or state that has been lost due to illness or injury. The objective is to restore mobility and physical abilities through exercises and other techniques. Injuries to muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, and bones require physical rehabilitation.

But here I will need your help, not only I am the rehabilitator. In order to treat injuries, you and your animal must also perform the exercises that I teach you with the indicated guidelines. Although it may seem counterproductive, many times the success of rehabilitation lies in starting to mobilize and not resting. In addition, these exercises will not only serve to recover from injuries, but also to prevent them and improve the physical condition of your animal.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation are not the same but they go hand in hand to treat, cure and train the body. The levels of action can be preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic.

As much as if it is an acute or chronic injury, we can start practically from the first day to treat and from the beginning of the injury to help.

In addition for horses, we will also evaluate your equipment to find out if it is the right one for your horse, we will assess exercises standing on the ground and on horseback, we will assess the rider or horsewoman (since our imbalances directly affect them) and I will give you the day-to-day life of a horse, for example, horses need to eat off the ground.

With all this together we will be able to treat injuries and decrease recovery time, prevent others, reduce the possibility of setbacks, improve sports performance by optimizing physical potential, improve the animal’s quality of life, reduce and/or eliminate pain, reduce the use of drugs and injections.
